Harry Turner

Hockey Manawatu Inc is proud to welcome Harry Turner as our new Patron. Harry's accomplishments are many and varied and he is a wonderful asset to Hockey in the Manawatu.

HOCKEY MANAWATU INCORPORATED

 

 

  • First played hockey at the age 11 and played for PNBHS at the age of 15

 

  • First umpired at the age of 15

 

  • Played for Broadway in 1945 and was Club Captain from 1949 - 1951

 

  • Selector/Coach of 1953 HMI Primary School Boy’s Representative Team. The team included some players who went on to play for Manawatu and New Zealand

 

  • Passed his A Grade umpiring exam in 1957 and umpired 3 Tests from 1958 – 1961

 

  • A North Island Umpires examiner from 1964 – 1969 and a New Zealand Umpires examiner in 1977. Coached umpires and presented seminars.

 

  • Umpired many 1st Class, National and International games, including India, Pakistan, Canada, Japan and Australia.

 

  • A Life Member of both Hockey Manawatu and the Hockey Manawatu Umpires Association.

 

  • Still maintains a close interest in hockey with a son and 2 grandsons playing hockey for Broadway and PNBHS

 

  • Harry’s brother Bruce Turner, is a Patron of Manawatu Cricket and a Life Member of Hockey Manawatu
