REP U18       DEVELOPMENT TO PERFORM

Some players are passionate about hockey and have the desire to get the best out of themselves. Some players are aiming to play for Central and even make it to the Black Sticks. All are characteristics of a performance athlete. Still to reach your full potential you have to learn to take ownership of your development. Other features are becoming more important also like your work ethic, coach ability, the thrive to get better all the time and personal characteristics like self-awareness, how you deal with disappointment, your intrinsic motivation, mental toughness, etc.

HMI has created a “Central/REP U18 development to perform programme”  that will provide you with the skills& tool to reach your full potential and make you perform under pressure. It also offers you a pathway to Central U18&21 teams, which we consider to be performance teams i.e. focus on winning.

To offer you these skills &tools The REP U18 in 2017 will offer new approaches to enhance your hockey and life skills

  1. To prevent overload, we start in term 1 with an 8-week high intensity trainings programme (Wednesday and Sunday). This enables us to do a step back in term  2 when players have much on with school and club hockey.

  2. More focus on the mental and life style skills as well as monitoring your improvements. Also going to the Hawke's Bay festival to learn from International games is part of the programme.

  3. No trials but a 2 week “open CH/REP U18 squad training” to see if you would like to be part of the U18 squad. From the 8 weeks training programme -after we know who is selected for Central U18 - we will select the HMI U18 REP team.  In case we don't have enough players left, we will send an open invitation to the community

  4. The nomination for the Central U18 trials will be based on this 8 week programme in term 1. Commitment, will to train, learn and improve will be the criteria for nomination + yo yo score.
